My rant for the day…I hope
While I was at work yesterday, all the registers had a sign posted, that EBT will be unavailable all day for September 16th. Most customers acknowledged this and went about their day. Some customers didn’t know what EBT was, so I politely explained it to them and they went about their day.
Then I get one customer, who I see frequently enough in the store, and he notices the sign, and says, “They need to do that more often.”
Now, me being the good employee, I say nothing. I continue to do my job. But, in my mind I’m thinking, “Why should the state do that more often?” “What is your opinion of what people on Food Stamps?” “Do you think everyone that uses EBT are addicted to drug or alcohol?” “Do you think everyone on EBT isn’t trying to make ends meet? Isn’t trying to better their lives?”
I really wanted to just turn to him and say, “You realize that I’m on food stamps, right? Do I look poor to you? Do I look like I don’t go to work everyday? Do I look like I shouldn’t have assistance from my government because the economy was so bad that I was using my paychecks to make sure I had roof over my head, clothes on my back, and running water in my house? No. For the past four years, I worked two jobs and never had a day off. Maybe, you should think about WHO you’re talking to before you decide to make such a stupid remark. So go ahead. TELL ME THAT AGAIN!”
